BACK OVER PREVENTION, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 Acura ZDX and Prologue vehicles. Due to a software error, the instrument panel display may fail. Additionally, a software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank screen when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays," 111, "Rear Visibility," and 305, "Electric-Powered Vehicles."

Consequence

An instrument panel display that fails to show critical safety information, such as the speedometer or warning lights, increases the risk of a crash or injury. Additionally, the loss of the rearview camera image can reduce the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy

Dealers will update the vehicle radio control module software, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 22, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are TNL and XNK. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning March 4, 2026.

SUSPENSION

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2024 Acura ZDX vehicles. The passenger-side front stabilizer bar bracket bolts may have been improperly tightened, which can allow the bolts to loosen and separate from the vehicle frame. A detached stabilizer bar or bracket can damage the vehicle's high voltage cables or EV battery coolant lines.

Consequence

Damaged cables or coolant lines can result in a vehicle shutdown, causing a loss of drive power and increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts, and repair the stabilizer bar and bracket, high voltage cables, and EV battery coolant lines as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 30, 2025. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is SLH.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

7 complaints

Owners report several electrical system issues with the 2024 Acura ZDX, including problems with door locks, braking systems, and electrical failures. Complaints frequently mention the vehicle failing to unlock with the remote, and some owners note a "door latch system service" error. Multiple owners describe unexpected activation of the automatic emergency braking system, sometimes leading to near-collisions. Additionally, there are reports of significant electrical malfunctions, such as blown fuses and short circuits due to wiring issues, which have led to the vehicle being inoperable or requiring extensive repairs. These problems typically arise within the first few thousand miles, and owners express concerns about potential safety risks, such as vehicle shutdowns or loss of control.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (7 complaints)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

7 complaints

Owners report frequent issues with the Forward Collision Avoidance systems in the 2024 Acura ZDX, specifically involving the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). Complaints frequently mention erroneous activation of the AEB, often without any warning lights, leading to sudden and forceful stops both while driving forward and reversing. These incidents typically occur at low mileages, around 200 miles, and are sometimes accompanied by the inability to disable the system, even when settings indicate it should be off. The unexpected and harsh braking poses a safety risk, as it can lead to potential rear-end collisions, personal injury from the abrupt stops, and an inability to reverse without turning off the vehicle. Potential buyers should be aware of these reported issues, as they may impact safety and drivability.

Complaints frequently mention the vehicle engaging the emergency brakes while reversing, even when there are no obstacles present, and sometimes multiple times during a single maneuver. This issue is described as occurring during various reversing scenarios, such as backing out of driveways or parking spots. The sudden braking can leave vehicles stopped in potentially hazardous positions, such as in the middle of the street, which could pose a safety risk if other vehicles are approaching. The complaints do not mention specific mileage ranges or timelines, indicating the issue may occur at any point in the vehicle's use.

I was driving my 2024 Acura ZDX at approximately 50 mph on a rainy day and activated the rear windshield wiper. Upon activation, the rear wiper assembly detached from the vehicle and flew off while the vehicle was in motion. Fortunately, there were no nearby vehicles at the time; however, the detached wiper could have struck another vehicle or created a road hazard. The failure also resulted in loss of rear visibility during inclement weather. I contacted the authorized Acura dealer immediately. The dealer declined to inspect the vehicle or perform a warranty repair, stating that they could not proceed because the detached part could not be produced. The part was lost as a direct result of the failure. I provided photographs showing the location on the vehicle from which the wiper detached. The incident occurred less than six months after purchase, with fewer than 2,000 miles on the vehicle. I then contacted Acura corporate support. After an extended review period, Acura offered only a partial “courtesy” discount rather than a warranty repair for what appears to be a safety-related defect. I am reporting this incident due to the risk of detached exterior components becoming road debris and the associated safety hazard to other motorists.

I’m reaching out regarding a serious vehicle incident that occurred in September 2024 involving my 2024 Acura ZDX. The vehicle i am leasing, accelerated forward into our property under circumstances that remain unclear and crashed into our garage, tearing down approximately half of the structure. During the event, the vehicle struck my girlfriend, causing her to sustain significant injuries, including a fractured femur, fractured tailbone, and a T12 compression fracture. There are several concerns regarding potential failure of vehicle safety systems, including lack of automatic emergency braking activation and no emergency call initiation. The vehicle remains in my possession and has not been repaired. I would like to explore whether a mechanical defect, unintended acceleration issue, or safety system failure may have contributed to the incident. Please let me know if you are available to review this matter. I can provide photos, documentation, and access to the vehicle for inspection.

The contact was able to re-enter the front seat of the vehicle and press the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. Upon returning the vehicle to the dealer, the dealer was informed of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 3,700.

I've had my vehicle for almost two months. When backing out of my garage occasionally the automatic emergency braking will engage when no obstacle is behind the vehicle. This has happened numerous times and requires multiple stop/restart cycles to get far enough to actually proceed.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent— Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good— Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed— Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky— Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.

Get notified when new recalls or reliability data is added for the Acura ZDX.

No spam. Only data updates for this model.
