ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

29 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Odyssey frequently report issues with the Auto Start/Stop system failing to restart the engine after it shuts off at stoplights. Typical symptoms include the vehicle stalling and remaining stationary in traffic, with warning lights such as the battery indicator illuminating. This issue often requires the driver to manually restart the engine, causing significant delays and posing safety risks, particularly in intersections or heavy traffic. Complaints often arise within the first year of ownership, with some vehicles having less than 10,000 miles. These incidents can lead to hazardous situations where stalled vehicles block traffic lanes, increasing the risk of collisions. Additionally, some owners mention intermittent electrical issues such as problems with sensors and battery drainage, which may compound the vehicle's reliability concerns.

ENGINE

16 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Odyssey frequently report issues with the Auto Idle Stop feature, which causes the engine to stall and fail to restart when the vehicle is stopped, such as at traffic lights. Symptoms include the need to manually restart the vehicle by pressing the start button multiple times, sometimes requiring the vehicle to be shifted into park. Complaints often describe these incidents occurring at busy intersections, creating potentially unsafe situations, with two injuries reported. The problem appears to be intermittent and occurs even in vehicles with relatively low mileage, as early as 12,000 miles. Buyers should be aware of these issues, especially if the vehicle will be used in heavy traffic conditions.

16 complaints total2 injuries

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

15 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Odyssey frequently report issues with the Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system, which intermittently fails to restart the engine after stopping at traffic lights or intersections. Symptoms include the vehicle stalling, requiring multiple attempts to restart, and warning lights occasionally illuminating on the dashboard. These issues often occur at low mileages, with one owner noting a problem at just 18,000 miles. Additionally, water leaks are reported in the vehicle's interior, leading to concerns about mold and potential electrical short circuits. Safety implications are noted, as the stalling can leave drivers stranded in traffic, raising the risk of rear-end collisions.

15 complaints total
POWER TRAIN (6 complaints)

POWER TRAIN

6 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Odyssey report issues primarily involving the transmission and idle stop system. Common symptoms include the vehicle unexpectedly shifting into park while moving, failure to accelerate from a stop, and stalling at stoplights. The idle stop system's malfunction, reported by multiple owners, leads to the vehicle not restarting promptly, creating potential safety risks in traffic. Transmission problems are noted as early as 12,549 miles, with one owner experiencing a complete transmission failure due to faulty seals, necessitating replacement. These issues suggest potential safety implications, particularly in scenarios where the vehicle stalls or loses power unexpectedly in traffic.

6 complaints total
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE (4 complaints)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

4 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report issues with the 2025 Honda Odyssey's forward collision avoidance system, specifically the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) and adaptive cruise control. Complaints frequently mention the CMBS activating unexpectedly, leading to sudden braking without apparent obstacles, even resulting in a crash and injuries. These incidents occur under various conditions, including while driving uphill or in clear surroundings. Additionally, multiple owners describe the adaptive cruise control system malfunctioning during high temperatures, displaying error messages and disabling functions, which resolve after the vehicle cools down. These issues are observed in vehicles with mileage as low as 4,200 miles, highlighting potential safety implications, including the risk of rear-end collisions and physical injuries from abrupt stops.

4 complaints total1 crash2 injuries
STRUCTURE (3 complaints)

STRUCTURE

3 complaints

Owners report issues with the 2025 Honda Odyssey's structure, including water leaks from the roof area and poorly aligned body panels, notably between the sliding door and passenger side door. Complaints frequently mention moonroof explosions while driving, even at low mileage under 4,000 miles. Additionally, there are reports of the lane departure system causing unintended steering, which could lead to potential safety concerns. These issues are observed in vehicles as new as three months old, suggesting early onset structural and system problems.

3 complaints total
SUSPENSION (2 complaints)

SUSPENSION

2 complaints

Owners report issues with the 2025 Honda Odyssey's suspension, including abnormal vibrations and shaking, particularly during braking at moderate to highway speeds. One owner notes that this issue is linked to rear brake rotor thickness variation, although no repair was performed. Another owner describes a vibration problem alongside premature tire wear and the need for new shocks, despite the vehicle being new. These complaints do not specify exact mileage, but they involve new vehicles, suggesting early onset of these issues. Safety concerns are noted regarding braking stability, particularly at higher speeds, which may be relevant for potential buyers evaluating the vehicle's performance and maintenance needs.

2 complaints total
SERVICE BRAKES (2 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Odyssey report issues with the service brakes, specifically involving unexpected brake system warnings and unprompted emergency braking. One complaint describes a situation where the brake system indicator illuminated, accompanied by severe resistance when pressing the brake pedal, and multiple warning lights activating, including the Vehicle Stability Assist. The vehicle required towing and brake booster replacement. Another owner reports the emergency avoidance system activating without cause while driving at approximately 40 mph, leading to heavy braking and a near-collision with a following vehicle. These incidents illustrate potential safety risks, particularly in scenarios involving inexperienced drivers or high-speed travel. Both complaints occur with relatively new vehicles, but specific mileage is not indicated.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
