FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

9 complaintsSafety-related

Owners report that the 2025 Honda Civic experiences issues with its forward collision avoidance system, particularly in adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking. Complaints frequently mention unexpected and harsh braking when no obstacles are present, often at highway speeds, which has nearly led to rear-end collisions in several instances. One crash is reported due to a failure of the adaptive cruise control to operate correctly, resulting in a collision with a truck. These incidents are noted to occur with varying mileage, but one owner mentions the issue starting at approximately 11,300 miles. Used car buyers should be aware of these reported safety implications, especially concerning the system's reliability and the potential for unexpected braking.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM (4 complaints)

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

4 complaintsSafety-related

Owners of the 2025 Honda Civic report issues primarily related to the fuel propulsion system, with several instances of rough idling and stalling concerns. These symptoms often occur around 2,000 to 9,000 miles and are linked to misfires and faulty fuel injectors, sometimes damaging spark plugs and requiring component replacements. One owner experienced a severe incident where the vehicle caught fire while driving, suspected to be due to a high-pressure fuel pump failure, which was under recall. Additionally, a complaint highlights discrepancies in advertised versus actual fuel tank capacity, leading to potential safety concerns. These reports suggest prospective buyers should be attentive to these issues, especially regarding recalls and fuel system reliability.

FUEL SYSTEM (3 complaints)

FUEL SYSTEM

3 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Civic report issues related to a recall on the fuel system, specifically mentioning the unavailability of parts needed for the repair. Complaints consistently describe a delay in obtaining the necessary components, with owners indicating that the manufacturer has taken an unreasonable amount of time to resolve the recall. Although the reports do not mention any actual failures or specific symptoms experienced, the lack of available parts for recall repairs is a recurring theme. There are no reports of crashes, fires, or loss of control associated with these complaints. Buyers should be aware of potential delays in addressing recall-related repairs for this model year.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL (2 complaints)

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

2 complaints

Owners report two primary issues with the vehicle speed control in the 2025 Honda Civic. One complaint describes a mechanical failure where the accelerator pedal becomes stuck in the fully depressed position, preventing the driver from controlling acceleration and requiring manual intervention to release the pedal. Another issue involves the collision mitigation system, with warnings appearing at approximately 6,000 and 10,000 miles, and unexpected braking occurring 6-8 times over 12,000 miles, particularly during cruise control. These incidents suggest potential safety risks, including unintended acceleration and unexpected braking, which could lead to loss of vehicle control.

2 complaints total
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (2 complaints)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Civic report issues related to sudden engine power loss and brake system malfunctions. One complaint describes a complete engine shutdown while driving, with no warning lights or prior symptoms, resulting in a safety hazard due to loss of propulsion in traffic. Another complaint details a brake malfunction warning, accompanied by soft brakes and grinding noises, which led to the vehicle being towed for service. The incidents occur shortly after purchase, within the first two months of ownership. These issues pose significant safety risks, including potential for crashes due to loss of control.

2 complaints total
VISIBILITY/WIPER (2 complaints)

VISIBILITY/WIPER

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Civic report issues related to visibility and wipers, specifically highlighting two main problems. First, wiper blades are noted to accumulate ice during winter driving, severely affecting visibility. Second, some owners describe the windshield as being susceptible to cracking from minor impacts, such as small rocks, which rapidly spread across the glass. These issues are reported to compromise visibility and interfere with the functionality of advanced driver assistance systems, as the windshield requires specific OEM parts and calibration that are currently on backorder. Safety implications include impaired visibility and potential system malfunctions, which are critical for buyers to consider, especially in areas prone to harsh weather or road debris.

2 complaints total
SERVICE BRAKES (2 complaints)

SERVICE BRAKES

2 complaints

Owners of the 2025 Honda Civic report two primary issues related to the service brakes. The first involves aluminum pedals, where owners experience slippage during wet conditions, which is noted at approximately 1,000 miles. The second issue pertains to the Driver Assistance System, specifically the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) and Road Departure Mitigation System (RDMS), with frequent warning messages appearing as early as 56 miles. Although no crashes or loss of control are reported, the frequent warnings and pedal slippage may pose safety concerns. These issues suggest potential challenges for buyers considering this model, particularly in wet climates or for those relying on advanced driver assistance features.

How We Calculate Reliability Scores

Auto Reliability Index scores are calculated on a 0–100 scale using a weighted formula that combines multiple public data sources. Each factor is weighted based on its predictive value for real-world ownership experience.

Key Ranking Factors

1

Complaint Severity

NHTSA owner complaints weighted by component category (e.g., powertrain, safety systems, electronics, cosmetic) — safety-critical issues carry more weight than cosmetic ones. Adjusted for sales volume so high-volume models aren't unfairly penalized.

2

Repair Costs

Independent reliability ratings based on repair frequency, average repair costs, and severity of typical repairs for each model.

3

Recall Impact

Number of NHTSA recalls weighted by severity. “Stop driving” and fire-risk recalls are penalized more heavily than minor software or labeling recalls.

4

Issue Diversity

Measures how many major vehicle systems (engine, transmission, electrical, braking, etc.) have recorded complaints. A vehicle with issues spread across many systems may indicate systemic quality issues.

Scores are grouped into four tiers:

  • 80–100: Excellent — Top-tier reliability, minimal issues
  • 60–79: Good — Reliable with some minor concerns
  • 40–59: Mixed — Notable issues, research before buying
  • 0–39: Risky — Significant problems, proceed with caution

Data is sourced from NHTSA recall records, owner complaint filings, and independent repair databases. Scores are recalculated as new data becomes available. While the weighting model is proprietary, all underlying data sources are public and traceable.
